The Holy Grail - The Track
Call me an Olympian, because that’s what I felt like on the track this morning.
I will (sheepishly) admit that I have never run on the track before today. I’m not exactly sure why it took me so long to do it. Probably something to do with feeling intimidated by the track, not understanding a track “workout” before becoming a coach, and yeah lacking some of my own confidence-mixed with my love for the roads.
But, I am here to tell you IT. WAS. AMAZING!!!
I can not overplay this too much. I strongly encouraged (or forced, however you wanna look at it) my BRF (*best running friend) to do a track workout with me this morning. We were both a little hesitant, but figured this was the day to go for it. It fit into our training schedule nicely and as a duo we knew we could tackle something new.
We had a blast. I so did not give the track enough credit before.
It was so squishy. And bouncy. And peaceful. And fast. And fun. It honestly made the miles fly by.
We enjoyed it so much that as we were leaving we ran past a guy who was running toward the track and we gave him the biggest goofiest smiles ever and said “enjoy!” as he just looked at us like we were absolutely crazy.
We will definitely be returning.
And again, running has shown me that I can step out of my comfort zone. I can do hard things. I can build up my confidence one run at a time.
What we did:
1.5mi WU to the track, 2x 800m (8/10 rpe) with 400m recovery, 2x 400m (9/10 rpe) with 400m recovery, 1.5mi CD home**
**In lay terms: Slow/easy 1.5miles to the track, 2 quick/hard laps with 1 easy lap (twice) then 1 quick/hard lap with 1 easy lap (twice), then slow/easy 1.5miles back to our starting point
