It's all about the base, about the base...
Not sure what base building is? Or why it matters?
Well, you have come to the right place.
We’re getting right into it today.
What is base building?
Base building is the time period/training period before you start your specific race training program. It is the work you do during the weeks leading up to the official training cycle “start” day.
What does base training do for me?
Base training has many benefits. It allows your body to slowly adjust and strengthen to the demands you will make on it in the coming months. It allows you to slowly build your mileage, aerobic base, strength and stamina before pushing your body to the next level.
Why do base training?
The solid foundation that you create from base building will place you much closer to your goal from the get-go. It allows your body to safely build strength, endurance and aerobic capacity. Every mile that you have in your back pocket from base building will benefit you.
How do I base train?
Run slow, run “often”, run in increasing distances.
How long should a base training program be?
It varies. Depending on your running/athletic history, your goals and your current fitness level. I would suggest somewhere in the 5-10 week range depending.
Where should I start?
Well I am just so glad you asked this! I just so happen to have 8 different base building plans ready to go. They are fully written plans so all you have to do is follow along and you will find yourself stronger, with a better aerobic base, and increased stamina going into your next training cycle.
Not sure which one is right for you?
